Hi Janet,

He had his first treatment today..He did well and he is home. He is on a pain pill for where the shot was given and will get a lazer treatment tomorrow to help with the swollen and pain. He has some loose stool but they said that is normal.. He is eating and I saved him some roast chicken..he was happy about that..he's sleeping and resting. They said at the vets he watched everything..he's noisey like his human mom's!!! He has some more treatment to go...

Charlie had the lazer treatment today to help with the pain and swollen. He let them touch the area and you would never know he was in pain my sweet boy. He has alot ahead of him. He got so sick in the car on the way home from the vet. We felt so bad for him. He is fine now and I am making him turkey rice soup to settle his belly down.

When April Hollingsworth went to South Salt Lake shelter searching for her AWOL cat, the

last thing she expected to take home was a Pit Bull/Boxer mix. But the 10-month-old female pup charmed her way into Hollingsworth's heart by looking directly into her face -- and

simply smiling.Full of mischief, the dog earned the name Piggy, and was a constant

companion for Hollingsworth. Being an attorney, Hollingsworth logs long hours and

Piggy helped her to maintain a sense of balance.Then Piggy and Hollingsworth's lives

changed drastically.Almost four years ago, Piggy sustained serious injuries when she

was struck by a hit-and-run driver. Paralysis was immediately evident when Hollingsworth picked Piggy up after the accident. But not willing to give up, Hollingsworth pursued every avenue of treatment for her beloved dog.The end result: a wheelchair that allows Piggy to

Piggy is beyond gentle with the patients, but most importantly, she is a role model for the kids going through a frightening illness or injury. Piggy's attitude to just keep trying and be happy doing it is infectious!

5 Tips For Summer Pet Health --

Never Leave Your Pet In The Car Alone - During warm summer months the inside of your car can reach up to 120 degrees in just a matter of minutes, even parked in the shade. Pets left in the hot car, even briefly, can suffer from heat exhaustion, heat stroke, brain damage, and even death. Watch Out For Poisonous Fertilizers - Lawn fertilizers and several products used to flourish grass and flower gardens contain toxic elements harmful, and in some cases fatal, to pets. Lawn fertilizer, insecticides and plant foods can cause diarrhea and vomiting in pets if poisonous.

Look for organic, natural or pet-friendly fertilizers to green your grass this summer. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! - Pets can get dehydrated quickly, so make sure a supply of clean, fresh water is always available during summer months. When it's hot outside, make sure your pet has access to a shady spot and be sure not to over-exercise. During extreme temperatures, keep your pets indoors to avoid heat exhaustion or dehydration. Warning signs of overheating and dehydration include excessive panting, glazed eyes and refusing to move.

SPF For Pets - Pets, especially those with white hair, haircuts or extremely short hair, are prone to sunburns and skin cancer as a result of sun overexposure. Pets can have sunblock applied to sun-sensitive areas such as tips of ears, nose the belly and groin areas that typically have sparse hair coverage and thinner skin. Consult your veterinarian before applying sunblock to your pet to find the best type of sunscreen or sun protection product.Get a Pre-Summer Health Screening - A check-up visit with the veterinarian is a good way to begin a healthy and safe summer. Ensure your pet is up to date on all vaccinations and goes into the summer months with a clean bill of health.

This is also a good time to ask your vet about heartworm medication and begin or continue your preventative medication routine; the deadly heartworm disease is transmitted through mosquitoes and effects both dogs and cats.

Shan's Little Angel~

This absolutely adorable kitty belongs to my dear friend Shan in Arizona. She has a cat named Hannah. Yesterday she sent me these precious pics of Hannah sleeping. She looks like she is praying!

Shan said she can picture her saying...now I lay me down to sleep ,I pray the Lord my soul to keep..lol

A Catio You Say?

What do you do when you live in a big city but want to give your kitty some outdoor time? Create a catio, of course!

What’s a catio, you ask? The New York Times had a great article on the phenomenon, which involves screening-in an outdoor area so that cats can enjoy some fresh air.
Many of the featured cat owners came up with their own creative methods for creating these outdoor spaces on porches and patios. And, there are several companies (and even a catio blog!) that specialize in outdoor pet enclosures, which range from do-it-yourself kits to elaborate, maze-like structures. Catios aren’t just limited to city folk, either. People with backyards have unlimited options for outdoor kitty playgrounds.

Many of us know all too well that cats can get stir crazy when they don’t get to go outside. So a catio concept sounds ideal. I think we would be a bit nervous having a kitty out on a high balcony, but some of the closer-to-the-ground options seem fun.

Here is an interesting cat tip I thought I would share with everyone.

The kitty bowl switch that keeps your floor clean. Serve him or her meals in a saucer. Deep bowls crowd a cat's whiskers(the site of sensitive nerve endings),causing her to pick up and transfer the food our of the dish. But a shallow dish gives kitty room to nibble in comfort.

And here is another cat tip that helps drastically reduce pet dander. ACHOO When mild pet-allergy symptons have you sniffling,just mix 1 tsp. of olive oil into your animal's foord daily. Tales of Tinkerbell and Peggy Sue

There is an adorable cat in my neighborhood I want to share with all of you. Her name is Tinkerbell. She spends her time outdoors,but we love her and feed her daily. I wish I could keep her,but because of my allergies I don't think I can. My kids love her to pieces too. Here are two pics of her...

PeggySue Dot Eyes or Handpainted Face?

Okay I need your honest opinion. I have two PeggySue dolls. One with polka dot eyes and one where the face was handpainted by me. Which one do you prefer? If you saw it in the store which one would you pick to buy? Please note that the one with the hair is a PeggySue doll we sent to Ellen Degeneres. Unfortunately we got no reply..lol Oh well...

I thought I would post some helpful information on myths about kitties.

Myth: Cats always land on their feet.Fact: While cats instinctively fall feet first and may survive falls from high places, they also may receive broken bones in the process. Some kind of screening on balconies and windows can help protect pets from disastrous falls.

Myth: Cats should drink milk everyday.Fact: Most cats like milk, but do not need it if properly nourished. Also, many will get diarrhea if they drink too much milk. If it is given at all, the amount should be small and infrequent.

Myth: Cats that are spayed or neutered automatically gain weight.Fact: Like people, cats gain weight from eating too much, not exercising enough or both. In many cases, spaying or neutering is done at an age when the animal's metabolism already has slowed, and its need for food has decreased. If the cat continues to eat the same amount, it may gain weight. Cat owners can help their cats stay fit by providing exercise and not over-feeding.

Myth: Cats cannot get rabies.Fact: Actually, most warm-blooded mammals, including cats, bats, skunks and ferrets, can carry rabies. Like dogs, cats should be vaccinated regularly according to local laws.

Myth: Indoor cats cannot get diseases.Fact: Cats still are exposed to organisms that are carried through the air or brought in on a cat owner's shoes or clothing. Even the most housebound cat ventures outdoors at some time and can be exposed to diseases and worms through contact with other animals feces.

Myth: Tapeworms come from bad food.Fact: Pets become infected with tape worms from swallowing fleas, which carry the parasite. Also, cats can get tapeworms from eating infected mice or other exposed animals.

Myth: Putting garlic on a cats food will get rid of worms.Fact: Garlic may make the cat's food taste better but has no effect on worms. The most effective way to treat worms is by medication prescribed by a veterinarian.

Myth: Pregnant women should not own cats.Fact: Some cats can be infected with a disease called toxoplasmosis, which occasionally can be spread to humans through cat litter boxes and cause serious problems in unborn babies. However, these problems can be controlled, if the expectant mother avoids contact with the litter box and assigns daily cleaning to a friend or other family member.

Myth: A cat's sense of balance is in its whiskers.Fact: Cats use their whiskers as "feelers" but not to maintain their balance.

Myth: Cats heal themselves by licking their wounds.Fact: Such licking actually can slow the healing process and further damage the wound.

Calay, 6 week old rescued kitten. She is a three legged cat. When she was adopted she had 103 fever, was flea infested, malnourished, and starving to death. Her dangling left hind paw, a little stump, was badly infected. She was fighting for her life.
